    Early Life and Family

    Brian Elwin Haner Jr., known as Synyster Gates within the metal scene, was born into a musically inclined family.

    His father, Brian Haner Sr., is an accomplished musician and comedian. Brian has three siblings: McKenna, Brent, and Johnny (not to be confused with former bassist Johnny Christ).

    • He enrolled in the Musicians Institute in Hollywood to pursue a degree in jazz guitar but left after six months. During this time, he received an invitation from his former high school friend, The Rev, to join his band, Avenged Sevenfold.

    Brian decided to give the band a shot whil
